French Horn Lessons in Ottawa – Fun, Friendly, and Tailored to You!

Hey there! I’m Guy Edrington, a professional French horn player and teacher who loves helping students of all ages fall in love with this amazing instrument. Whether you’re a total beginner, a high school student prepping for band, or an adult revisiting an old passion, I’m here to make learning enjoyable, rewarding, and stress-free.

Why Take Lessons with Me?

“Active Performer, Proven Teacher”
When I’m not teaching, I’m on stage! I recently completed 7 concerts for Concerts in Care. As a studio musician, recitalist, and freelance player (working in both Canada and the U.S.), I bring real-world expertise to every lesson.

I have taught at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, Lakehead University and listed as horn instructor at Carlton University. My undergraduate degree was in music education from Florida State University which has a highly regarded music education program, consistently ranked among the top programs in the U.S.

Want to hear my playing? Check out these samples:

I’ve been where you are—and I know how to help! With years of teaching (including at Lakehead University and the Royal Conservatory) and performing as a Conn-Selmer French Horn Artist, I’ve picked up tricks that make learning easier and more fun.

No two students are alike, so I don’t teach like a robot. We’ll focus on your goals—whether that’s nailing an audition, playing your first melody, or just jamming for joy.

Real-world experience makes all the difference! I’ve trained with world-renowned horn pedagogues like Froydis Ree Wekre (one of the foremost horn teachers globally) during my postgraduate performance horn studies in Oslo, Norway, and Dr. Bill Capps at FSU. This means you’re learning proven, elite techniques—not just theory.”

Also I have had lessons or played in masterclasses with Philip Farkas, Barry Tuckwell, Erick Penzel, Eugene Ricttick, Kendell Betts,   Neil Sanders  Dennis Behm, Bill Robinson and Doug Hill

Life’s busy! I get it. Between gigs and teaching, I keep my schedule flexible so we can find a time that works for you.
